Toll Roasting & Contract Coffee Roasting
Your green coffee. Our roasting operation.
You choose and own the green coffee. Black Ink Coffee roasts it to an agreed profile, then packages or ships the finished coffee according to your production plan.

Control the coffee you bring to market
Toll roasting is a fit for brands with a specific origin, an established green-coffee supply, or a need to control sourcing. We can start with smaller production runs and discuss a schedule as demand grows. If you want us to source green coffee for your program, we can quote that separately.
Roasting rates
Rates are per pound of incoming green coffee per production run:
- 20–49 lb: $3.50/lb.
- 50–99 lb: $3.25/lb.
- 100–249 lb: $3.00/lb.
- 250–499 lb: $2.50/lb.
- 500+ lb: Approximately $2.25/lb, confirmed by quote.
- Optional sourcing and ordering: Add $0.50/lb green, plus the green-coffee purchase price and inbound freight. See green coffee sourcing.
- Optional individual-order fulfillment: Starting at $2 per finished 12 oz package or $5 per finished 5 lb package, plus postage and custom work.
- Bulk outbound shipping: Quoted separately based on actual finished weight and destination.
Green coffee, inbound freight, packaging materials, and storage beyond an agreed allowance are separate. If you prefer to use our green-coffee supply, compare wholesale and private label.
Worked example: bulk shipment after a 500 lb run
Assume a 500 lb green-coffee run at $2.25/lb and an illustrative 16% roast-weight loss:
- Roasting: 500 × $2.25 = $1,125.
- Roasted yield: 500 × 84% = approximately 420 lb.
- Illustrative bulk freight: At an assumed $1 per roasted pound, 420 × $1 = $420.
- Roasting plus illustrative outbound freight: $1,545, before the cost of green coffee, inbound freight, and packaging.
The $1/lb freight assumption is an example, not a shipping quote. We quote actual shipping based on finished weight, packaging, destination, and carrier. Roast loss varies.
Worked example: ship individual 12 oz bags
At 420 lb roasted, the run produces 560 theoretical 12 oz bags before packaging loss or retained samples. Assuming 560 finished bags:
- Roasting: $1,125 ÷ 560 = about $2.01 per bag.
- Individual-order fulfillment: 560 × $2 = $1,120, or $2 per bag.
- Illustrative green-coffee cost: At $5/lb delivered, 500 × $5 ÷ 560 = about $4.46 per bag.
- Illustrative customer-supplied bag cost: $1.25 per bag.
- Illustrative subtotal: About $9.72 per bag, before consumer postage, payment processing, special handling, and applicable storage.
- If we source and order the green coffee: Add 500 × $0.50 = $250, or about $0.45 per theoretical bag.
The $5 green-coffee and $1.25 bag costs are assumptions, not fixed prices. The $2 individual-order charge does not apply when finished coffee is simply shipped to you in bulk. Explore direct-to-customer fulfillment and inventory storage if you want us to hold and ship the bags.
Packaging and fulfillment
We can fill, weigh, and seal customer-supplied ready-to-fill bags. Individual order fulfillment is quoted separately from roasting. As an example, standard fulfillment starts at $2 per 12 oz package or $5 per 5 lb package, plus postage and any custom handling. Labels, inserts, special boxes, cans, and other manual work are quoted after we review your requirements.
Customer-supplied green coffee is subject to inspection when received. We may decline a lot that presents contamination, pest, foreign-material, moisture, storage, food-safety, or equipment concerns.
